Las Vegas Dentists on RealSelf.com

RealSelf.com is quickly becoming the go-to website for all things cosmetic.  Plastic Surgeons were first to promote their services and answer questions through the website.  Now cosmetics have started to answer questions and provide information, including before and after photos. The stated mission of RealSelf.com is to bring confidence to every important health and beauty decision. The Las Vegas dentists with the largest presence on this site are Mike Golpa DDS, Marielaina Perrone, and myself Mark Edington DDS.  I have shared 27 photos (unretouched/no photoshop real patients) and provided 83 answers to the realself community.

2015 Dental Implant Symposium in Las Vegas Nevada

I am attending the 2015 Nobel Biocare Symposium this weekend.  The symposium is a 3 day conference providing continuing education on dental implant treatments.  The symposium is the annual meeting for the largest dental implant company in North America.  I was invited by Las Vegas oral surgeon Bryce Leavitt to attend.  I am updating my knowledge on the latest materials and techniques in implant dentistry.

Same day crowns are in demand in Las Vegas

Las Vegas residents are becoming increasingly aware of a technology that is changing the way dentists retore teeth.

The old way of restoring teeth required more than one visit to the dentist. On the first visit, you would get shots to have your teeth numbed, your tooth would be prepared then an impression taken, and a temporary restoration would be placed on your tooth. The second appointment followed a couple of weeks later, at which time you would get another injection and have the temporary taken off.  Then you would have a permanent restoration put on.  With CEREC®, the procedure is done in a single appointment, start to finish.

A CEREC® tooth restoration isn't just convenient, it is also healthy. Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold, and other metals. With CEREC®, dentists can use strong, tooth colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function. These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates. So, your tooth does not crack, and you can go on enjoying your evening. Also, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so a CEREC dentist can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.

I love the CEREC machine and I can use CEREC® for more than just crowns and fillings. CEREC® is capable of producing most tooth restorations. Chipped or discolored front teeth can be repaired with CEREC® porcelain anterior crowns or veneers.

Braces and Invisalign becoming more common for Adults in Las Vegas

Adults in Las Vegas are increasingly seeking out orthodontic treatment to improve their smiles.  In my Las Vegas dental office alone we have seen an over 120% increase in the past two years in adults seeking out orthodontic treatment.  Dental braces have become more popular in Las Vegas and throughout the country as more people have been educated on the benefits of a straight healthy smile. Much of the increase in adult orthodontics can likely be attributed to the ease and convenience of newer, modern methods in teeth straightening.

In Las Vegas, NV Invisalign is the most popular option for adults seeking our orthodontic treatment.  Invisalign has become an important option because it is nearly invisible (very few adults like the idea of looking like an akward teenager).  Also, for most adults Invisalign is more comfortable than traditional orthodontics, because the tooth movement are precise and gentle.  Tooth movements are programmed into the Invisalign system using sophisticated algorithms to achieve the desired result.  The flexible plastic used for teeth straightening is generally more comfortable and safer than metal brackets, bands, and wires used in traditional dental braces.  Last, Invisalign is removable, which is a huge benefit for adults with busy lifestyles.  The aligners can be removed for eating, oral hygiene, or special events.  Many teenager don't mind or notice food particles left in braces after a meal, but adults are generally more conscious and want to be able to perform normal hygiene to keep their smiles sparkling.  This is after all one of the main reasons to straighten teeth.

Invisalign may be the secret to a better love life!

The Invisalign company recently did a survey of 2000 single adults to evaluate the impact that a healthy smile has on dating life.  Invisalign found the following interesting facts:

  • 82%  agreed that the 1st thing people notice about others is their smile
  • 92%  note that a mouth-related trait is a major turn-off in a potential partner
  • 82% say bad breath is a major turn-off
  • When asked what personal traits make adults self-conscious, three in ten (30%) U.S. adults cite their teeth, followed by their hair (26%), skin (23%) and overall style (13%).
  • 39% feel that having a treatment/procedure done to their teeth would help them attract a potential mate. And more than one in five (21%) U.S. adults feel that straightening their teeth would help them change their status from “single” to “in a relationship.”
Maybe it is just a coincidence but within a year of straightening my teeth with invisalign my relationship status went from single to married.  I have seen transformations in so many of my Las Vegas patients that I am excited to offer teeth straightening with invisalign as a major confidence booster.

Laser dentistry in Las Vegas

Lasers have become increasingly more common in Las Vegas as dentists expand the use of lasers for dental care.  Soft tissue lasers help dentists to expose tooth structure that has been buried in unhealthy puffy gums.  Laser are used to sterilized gum tissues in the treatment of periodontal disease to shorten healing time after treatment by dental hygienists.  Lasers can zap cold sores and decrease the severity of recurrence.  Apthous ulcers, tissue tags and infections can all be treated with lasers.  The applications for a dental laser are growing everyday and I find new uses for my laser each year at my practice here in Las Vegas. I feel lucky to have a diode laser at my disposal for daily use on my patients.  They appreciate the comfort of laser procedures in comparison with the old way of doing things.  The precision of a dental laser assisted procedure is simply unmatched by any other method.  I wish that all my colleagues her in Las Vegas would jump onboard and get a laser themselves to bring our patients the highest quality care.
